Factors affecting the microbial production of ferrichrome.
نویسنده
چکیده
The isolation and general properties of ferrichrome have been reported elsewhere (l-3). Studies on the fundamental biological mechanism of action of this compound may be directed into one or both of two channels. The substance may be examined for its mode of action by using an organism for which it shows growth factor activity, i.e. Pilobolus kleinii. Alternatively, it may be studied in an organism which produces it, i.e. Ustilago sphaerogena. The recent development of a sensitive and accurate assay method for ferrichrome (4) has facilitated the second approach and hence this paper is concerned with the production of ferrichrome by U. sphaerogena.

Studies on the metabolic function of the ferrichrome compounds.
Ferrichrome is a representative member of a group of microbial products which show very intense growth factor activity when tested with a small number of selected fungal and bacterial species (1). Some of the members of this group of compounds, e.g. aspergillic acid (2), nocardamin (3), and grisein (albomycin) (4), are potent antibiotics against certain strains of microorganisms. Although the u...

متن کاملMicrobial Degradation of the Ferrichrome Compounds.
An unidentified Pseudomonas capable of growth on ferrichromes as sole sources of carbon and nitrogen was isolated by enrichment culture on ferrichrome A. The spectral shifts observed for the culture supernatant fluids and the degradation products which accumulated in the culture media during growth on these compounds indicated that initially the cyclic peptide rings are broken to yield simpler ...
